Engineer Scheduling and Field Operations Tool

Background

A client in the engineering services industry needed a robust scheduling tool to organise their engineers’ daily activities and optimise route planning. Additionally, they required a companion mobile app for engineers to use in the field, enabling them to log repair photos, make notes on parts used or needed, and keep customers informed about arrival times.

We carefully wireframed the whole scheduling platform, for desktop and the service app

Approach

We delivered a comprehensive dual-platform solution comprising a desktop application for office management and a mobile app for field engineers. Key steps included:

📋 Project Management: Oversaw the entire project lifecycle to ensure timely and efficient delivery.

🎨 Design & Prototyping: Created wireframes in Balsamiq and designed user-friendly interfaces in Figma for both desktop and mobile applications.

💻 Development: Utilised Laravel for the backend and VueJS for the frontend of the desktop app. Integrated Google Maps APIs for route optimization and GraphQL to connect the mobile app with the backend.

📱 Mobile App Features: Enabled engineers to log repair photos, document parts used or needed, and access optimised schedules and routes.

🤖 Automation: Implemented SMS text sending to automatically notify customers of engineer arrival times.

🧪 Quality Assurance: Conducted thorough QA testing to ensure reliability and performance.

🔧 Ongoing Support: Provided continuous development and support to refine features based on user feedback.

Brand gruidelines were created to give the dashboard, app and website authortity and cohesiveness
